Schools should be more than just a place to send our children, It should be a place where adults feel welcome to donate their time, and are encouraged to consult with teachers and staff to improve their own children's education. A place where parents can go for advice or for parenting classes without feeling like a failure. 

We would like to see all the state agencies like child welfare, and children services that offer guidance and services for children to have an office in each school district. The police should be encouraged to have a local presence in all the schools so students know the police are not the enemy but rather trusted adults enforcing the laws of our land. 

Year around school year with two week breaks six times a year is another proposal we think makes sense. We have the buildings and staff and it would eliminate young children from having three months to forget all the were taught the year before, as well as keep them off the streets while the parents are at work.  

Day Care, after school day care and Pre Kindergarten centers could be encouraged to build the centers on adjacent land to the schools, or even on leased school land to reduce busing and get parents to the school more often. Senior citizen centers on the school grounds would be a great asset, where mentor programs and volunteers would be a welcome addition.  

Counselors should be trained to work with parents as well as their children to stop abusive and destructive behavior. We need required meetings with all parents a minimum of four times a year to inform the parents of what is expected of their children as well as the parents, with  greater flexibility to meet parents after work and on weekends.  

When our children are born they do not know or understand right from wrong, hate, cursing,physical and verbal abuse, smoking, drinking or even the color of a persons skin. This is all taught!! While we do believe most parents try to teach good values to their children, there are many that don't know or just don’t care. We need a better system to identify the problems and to hold children, their parents and even the teachers to a higher standard.
